Story
I am planning to ride my bike from Lands End to John O Groats (the long way round via Ullapool and Cape Wrath total miles 1300) over 3 weeks in August/Sept 2024 to raise awareness and funds for the British Liver Trust. I have a rare auto immune disease called Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) which predominantly effects my liver and in turn my muscles with muscle atrophy, build up of toxins, central and peripheral fatigue. So this challenge is truly a challenge, I will be doing this totally unsupported and cycling alone. I have personally received support from both the British Liver Trust and the PBC Foundation but chose the British Liver Trust as I personally know other people who have other types of liver disease through nothing more than bad luck and I feel I should be raise awareness of all the diseases as they are all deserve help and support.
Sadly there are over 100 types of liver conditions some are rare and others can be prevented. 20% of the population is at risk of liver disease, there are many causes people don’t know about.
The British Liver Trust provides advice and information to patients and families, a support telephone number, campaigns and works with healthcare professionals to improve early diagnosis and patient care, raises awareness of how to look after your liver and supports research. Thank you for your support, and please don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation if you are a UK taxpayer.
