The 'One to Six Challenge' was initially a personal challenge for me to help raise funds for charity by quitting alcohol, having drank socially for most of my adult life. Also, I wanted to do something in memory of my sister who I lost to alcohol 8 years ago. Joanne was beautiful, funny, gregarious and clever but battled drug addiction for many years. Having finally beat it she then turned to alcohol, which sadly took her from us.

When I first had the idea of quitting alcohol, and spoke to friends about my crazy plan, it became very apparent that more and more people are rethinking their relationship with alcohol and would also like to take the challenge, be it for a “break from the booze”, a complete lifestyle change or simply to challenge themselves for a good cause.

Six months can be a tall order therefore the challenge has been adapted to six challenges, ranging from one to six months of sobriety. I will be taking the 'Sober for Six" challenge, which starts on 2nd January 2023. You can also start the challenge at any point - as long as you do at least one month of sobriety.

Collectively, we are hoping to raise around £20000 for the running costs of the 'Weekly Meal Service' and also to support our food and nutrition educational programmes, which we currently run in 5 primary schools in Jersey.

The Weekly Meal Service is our founding service at Caring Cooks and supports vulnerable families during difficult times by providing meals on a weekly basis to give them a break from the stress of shopping, cooking and the financial strain. The service has been running for over 8 years now and with more families in need of support during the cost of living crisis, we need to support our community more than ever.
