Yukon 1000 Kayak Race · 12 July 2024

We help the hospital offer a better future to seriously ill children across the UK

Story

In July this year, we will be taking part in a 1000 mile kayak race following the Yukon river from Whitehorse in Canada to the Dalton Highway Bridge in Alaska. This race, known as the Yukon 1000, is a gruelling test of fitness and survival in a truly remote wilderness.

Competitors have a maximum of 9 days to complete the 1000 mile course following the route taken by the gold rush prospectors in the late 1800s, and must take all food and equipment required to survive the entire journey.

We will be undertaking this journey in a double kayak, reestablishing a partnership from over 20 years ago where as teenagers we used to race together! Having both turned 40 this year, what better way to celebrate than an epic adventure in the Canadian and Alaskan wilderness.

We will also be raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Rich's son Harry underwent multiple brain surgeries when he was younger. Harry suffers from a condition called Chiari Malformation, and has suffered with intense headaches since he was a baby. The care given to Harry by the doctors and nurses at the hospital was incredible, and we would like to take this opportunity to give something back, and to support the hospital in helping more children like Harry.

Please do give what you can to support this fantastic cause.
