YouthCity Government (YCG): Empowering Youth Through Civic Engagement
YouthCity Government (YCG) provides Salt Lake City high school students with a unique opportunity to positively impact their community. Founded in 1994, YCG provides students with critical thinking skills while emphasizing the importance of civic engagement. Through collaboration with elected officials, city administrators, and community leaders, students are trained to identify and address key issues facing the city.
Our Impact: SLC MLK Day of Service Project
Since 2002, YCG has partnered with the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office, the Salt Lake City Council’s Office, and the Utah Food Bank to raise awareness and address hunger in our community through the MLK Day of Service Project. This collaboration highlights food insecurity while offering essential resources and solutions to those in need.
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy, YCG transforms a "Day Off" into a "Day On" by taking action. Working alongside city officials, YCG students demonstrate the power of community and shared commitment to making a meaningful difference.

By partnering with community organizations and volunteers, they continue to make a significant impact in the fight against hunger. Last year alone, they distributed 54.6 million meals through a network of 270 partner agencies in all 29 counties.
As one of the few food banks nationwide that provides food free-of-charge to partner agencies, Utah Food Bank also offers direct services to the most vulnerable populations, including children and seniors. With each $1 donated stretching to provide $8.36 worth of goods and services, every contribution makes a real difference. Support their vital work today with a donation!
