Story
Update following the sudden passing of Richard Shipton
Rich was more than a colleague - he was a true friend of so many and invaluable help with my own horrible journey. We bonded over music, marmite, curry and culture – kids of the 80s and 90s and still young at heart. We love Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, the Cure, Pink Floyd and Oasis.
How do we speak of our loss – the empty hole where his council would be, the sense of strange calm and process his infectious enthusiasm brought to do more, better?
He was building his business; stretching his legs with the confidence fed by experience. Supporting those around him and bringing sunshine into so many of our lives.
I am honoured and proud to have been his friend
sleep tight rest in peace my special special friend.

Life has a strange way of reminding us of fragility but also how lucky we are.
On May 22nd 2023 my life changed forever – not just mine but my wife, kids, mother, brothers friends and colleagues. I was diagnosed, completely out of blue – with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. A diagnosis that derails everything.
Go to Accident and Emergency
Do not pass Go
Do not collect £200
It was a bolt from the blue and an instant stop to everything I loved but also as significant brush with death a reset opportunity.
It was how I imagine being kidnapped or sent to jail would be – a complete stop to everything. Everything in my future was cancelled.
A year later I am alive along with others who have followed the same journey and starting out on life 2.0 thanks to people like Prof, Jo, and the team at the Christie.
We are raising much needed funds for the Christie – some by doing some exceptional sporting / physical event like the Manchester 10k (well done team Deans Court Chambers)
I am investing my time helping people diagnosed with cancer and those who care for them. Helping them connect, learn, understand and survive.
I am also helping the nursing staff and training organisations understand the patients perspective
Finally I am using my skills to build a brand supporting the Christie and developing a resilience mindset for the journey.
