Story

Why Attend (My Story) ?

At the tender age of 21, I confronted the profoundly heart-wrenching reality of suicide when a loved one lost her dear sibling to this silent struggle. The echoes of that pain lingered when I learned of the tragic loss of a dear student of mine many years later, a haunting spectre of guilt weaving through my thoughts. The shock and weight of grief became all too familiar when news arrived of a cherished family member succumbing to the same battle few years ago. Amidst this sorrow, a moment of paradoxical pride and complex emotions emerged when I successfully intervened to prevent the suicide of a young woman on the underground platform of the Central Line in London. The combination of heartbreak, guilt, shock, and triumph became a mosaic of emotions that has fuelled my commitment to understanding, addressing, and breaking the silence surrounding suicide. As a result, I underwent training with Mind in West Essex last year, which completely transformed my perspective on suicide and equipped me with a comprehensive action plan for when it is needed.

Life is unpredictable, and like in my experience with suicide, each of us may encounter moments where knowledge and understanding become life-changing. This event is not just about raising awareness; it's about equipping you with the tools to recognize, respond, and prevent suicide. "Breaking the Silence" stands as a beacon of hope, offering life-saving insights that can make a profound difference in many lives including yours.
