Story
Myself, Saqlain, Hamzah, Muhaiz have decided to cycle together from London to Cambridge (around 100 km) on Saturday 1st April 2023 to raise money for the victims of the deadly Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
We hope to use it as an opportunity particularly in Ramadan to raise money and support those affected at their most difficult time.
And a reminder for us all.
Those who in charity spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public, have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. [Quran 2:274]
No matter how small the donation it all counts and any donation will make a huge impact. Please donate as much as your means allow.
If you have a minute, please do read the statistics and story below to understand the devastating impact of the Earthquakes.
The Earthquakes in February 2023 in Turkiye and Syria are some of the deadliest earthquakes in recent memory.
As we are reminded in the Quran that
"Whoever saves one life, it is as if they have saved all of mankind”. Quran [5:32]
The affected regions are already facing immense challenges due to conflict, displacement, and lack of resources. This disaster has only exacerbated the existing challenges, leaving millions in urgent need of assistance. Islamic Relief is on the ground, providing life-saving aid to those affected, including emergency shelter, food, water, and medical care.
So far the statistics are harrowing:
- More than 51,000 deaths
- Approximately 40 million people affected
- Over 86000 buildings destroyed
- Approximately 380,000 people have taken refuge in government shelters, shopping malls, community centres and even their cars to protect them from the cold.
