Story
After previously losing my Grandmother and Aunt to Secondary Breast Cancer, in late 2023, I again lost another Aunt to the very same disease. Despite the best available treatments, it remains the second leading cause of death for women with cancer and there are around 55,900 new breast cancer cases in the UK every year (more than 150 cases per day). For those who don’t know, Secondary breast cancer is cancer that has spread beyond the breast and nearby lymph nodes to other parts of the body.
One More City is an annual cycling campaign that moves from city to city, starting from where the previous year’s ride has finished and since 2017, One More City has completed seven rides through six countries, raising nearly £400,000 for secondary breast cancer research in the UK.
The ethos of One More City is that the journey is never over; we are always progressing towards the next city, there are always more kilometres to do, more climbs to conquer and more challenges to face. This is akin to the reality of anyone living with cancer, especially secondary cancer, for whom the challenge is never over; there are always more treatments to endure, more scans to face, more side effects to manage.
This year on September 26th we will begin the journey of cycling from Venice to Rome, across 4 days with an average daily distance at 175km and 2000m of elevation. It’s never an easy journey, but it’s very rewarding and more importantly our raised funds go directly towards supporting another (4th) Phd student towards clinical research into secondary breast cancer.
Your support in all forms is greatly appreciated and I look forward to your words of encouragement and support along the journey!
Thank you
