Story
On Monday, September 11th, 2023, Libya faced an unprecedented disaster as Storm Daniel unleashed its fury upon the nation. The storm made landfall on Sunday, triggering a state of extreme emergency, especially impacting the eastern cities of Benghazi, Sousse, Derna, and Al-Marj. The situation is dire, and the Libyan Presidential Council has declared three areas in its eastern Cyrenaica province as disaster zones due to catastrophic floods. Officials say as many as 20,000 people are missing with 11,000 confirmed dead.
The devastation is heart-wrenching, with no internet connection or electricity in many areas, leaving communities in darkness and isolation. The death toll is expected to rise into the thousands, and the need for immediate humanitarian assistance is critical.
