Story
The Young Adults' Group (YAG) of the Iona Community is a dispersed group of young adults committed to the rule of the Iona Community; working for peace and justice, meeting together, accounting for our use of the Earth's resources, and praying and reflecting regularly. Throughout the past year, a theme of our meetings has unsurprisingly been the awful and unimaginable situation in the Occupied Territories of Palestine, Israel and the surrounding area. We have struggled with the news together, been overwhelmed, sad, angry and unsure what to do in response.
We have decided to collectively run/walk/cycle/swim/cartwheel/crawl the Wall to raise money for the fantastic and crucial work the Amos Trust do.
We are aiming to collectively run/walk/cycle/swim/etc. 438km, which is the length of the current Israeli wall around parts of Palestine.
We will all do our distance around the weekend of 1-3 November, the same weekend as thousands of others around the world do the same, in solidarity with Palestinians.
We are talking part as an act of solidarity, to raise awareness, as a call for an end to Palestinian dispossession, to demand an end to Israel’s war on Gaza, and to urge the new UK Government to recognise the Palestinian state.
We are supporting Amos Trust's emergency appeal for Gaza, whose population is experiencing a humanitarian disaster- over 40,000 people have been killed and 2 million displaced.
Amos Trust's appeal is to:
-provide emergency food aid
-heal shattered lives through medical care and psychological support,
-support young Gazan journalists to tell their story
-allow the Gaza Sunbirds para cyclists to represent Palestine on a global stage
-to support Palestinian communities on the West Bank that face settler and military violence.
Please consider donating to the work of the Amos Trust either here on our fundraiser, or by becoming a regular donor through their website.
Thank you for reading our page and being interested in our fundraiser.
