Story
On Monday 9 November, we're bringing the much-loved 1991 adventure ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES back to the big screen at Parkway Cinemas. As we prepare to celebrate a film that we've adored since childhood, we wanted to take the opportunity to do something positive in honour of one of its most iconic locations: the beautiful Sycamore Gap tree.
Standing beside Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland for almost 200 years, the tree's appearance in the film earned it the affectionate nickname 'The Robin Hood Tree', and over the years it became one of Britain's most recognisable and beloved natural landmarks.
In September 2023, the tree was tragically felled in an act of vandalism, prompting an outpouring of sadness from people across the country and beyond. It was a heartbreaking loss, not only for the local landscape, but for everyone who had visited, photographed or simply admired this remarkable tree.
That's why, in the run-up to our screening, we're raising money to support the National Trust's work to honour the tree's legacy, protect and conserve the landscape around Sycamore Gap, restore woodlands and help ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy these beautiful places. Find out more about the National Trust's work at Sycamore Gap.
There are several ways you can support our appeal. You can make a donation directly through this page, contribute to one of our collection buckets at the screenings where available, or simply join us for the film.
We Watch Films will be donating 50% of our share of every ticket sold across all four screenings at Parkway Cinemas in Beverley, Cleethorpes, Workington and Barnsley, so every ticket purchased will help support the appeal.
Tickets are available via wewatchfilms.com, and of course, you're very welcome to make an additional donation here too!
Whether you're joining us for the screening or simply share our love of film, nature and the places that bring them together, we'd be incredibly grateful for any donation, however big or small.
Because some things are worth fighting for. And some legacies deserve to live on.
Thank you for your support.
