As a family we are travelling to the British Transplant Games in Coventry where Wren and Milo will compete for the first time.

Wren and Milo were both born with PFIC-2, a rare genetic liver condition, and have been treated by King's College Hospital for the past 9 years. Milo received a liver transplant in 2016 age 2 and Wren received a liver transplant in 2021 age 7. Under the care and support of the hospital, despite continuing obstacles and treatment, Wren and Milo are both doing well, living life to the full and looking forward to taking part in their first transplant games.

King's Children's Transplant Team are children and young people who have had liver, small bowel, or multi organ transplants at King's College Hospital. The team takes part in The British Transplant Games each summer.

The games take place in the summer holidays, in different cities around the UK. They are packed full of sports and social events for children and parents to meet other families who have had similar experiences and to celebrate life and organ donation.

Children can take part in events such as archery, obstacle race, ball throw, swimming, badminton, table tennis, or track & field and there are events for siblings and parents too!

In 2023 the Games are being held in Coventry, from Thursday 27 July to Monday 31 July.

King’s runs the largest liver transplantation programme in Europe and carries out some 50 paediatric transplants per year. Although most children return to a normal life after transplant, they are left with scars, and many experience psychological effects. They will usually need lifelong medication; frequent hospital appointments; blood tests and other procedures; and are more susceptible to illness and infection. The differences from their peers can make transplant children feel very isolated.

Every year King’s transplant children and their families attend the British Transplant Games, being part of the team provides support long after the event, and creates lifelong memories.
