Story
The Terrific Ten from Winthrop are taking part in the November Knitting Challenge to raise money for Dementia UK.
Winthrop runs a twice monthly Memory Cafe and we've also just started a Carers Support Group so we see at first hand the challenges faced by people living with dementia and their carers. The volunteers in our Community Cafe do Dementia Awareness training to make sure our Warm Winthrop Welcome is particularly attuned to the needs of people living with dementia and their carers.
We like to think we help people living with dementia live their best lives - we chat, we sign, we do quizzes, we plant bulbs, we laugh and have fun.
We'd like to think any money we raise can support Dementia UK and fund more 'Admiral Nurses' to provide the extra support people will need and benefit from.
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimers disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
