Story
5 days ago a video went viral where it showed 2 Syrian girls (Eilaaf & Sabah) crying whilst they talked about how they are suffering from the harsh winter.
The 1 minute long video was posted by the Emergency Response Team Charity which generated over 500,000 views and resulted in many people donating as well as other 'charities' sharing the footage. Unfortunately, whilst the efforts of those who donated were genuine, many of the charities who shared the footage were not. The girl who can be seen in the video (here), on the left, is my second cousin (Eilaaf). I spoke to her uncle yesterday in which he stated that both girls received nothing but two bags of firewood and a jacket whilst many charities who shared the footage claim that they have been 'fully sponsored'.
It is clear that 'charities' have exploited Eilaaf & Sabah to increase their PR as rather than actually helping them. This is unfortunately the harsh reality of many 'humanitarian organisations' operating in Syria. Therefore, I have taken matters into my own hands and reached out to Salam Charity. A charity who I have worked with before and know personally to do great work on the grounds with refugees.
I would also like to clarify that my family and I have always tried our best to help all of our relatives and others who have been affected by the war in Syria. However, there is only so little that we can do when most of our relatives have either passed away or are refugees/orphans.
The funds raised through this page will be used to keep as many children warm as possible throughout this harsh winter (Starting with Eilaaf & Sabah) whilst also ensuring that they are well fed and healthy. Adjustments could be made regarding the funds in which I will immediately update everyone through this page and my instagram.
I would like to thank you all in advance for donating/sharing and if any of you have any questions please do feel free to reach out to me on instagram: @omarelks and I will try my absolute best to respond when I can.
