***

Winter can be a particularly difficult time of year.

The dark months and festive period often magnify financial worries, loneliness, grief, mental health issues, the contemplation of suicide and many other difficulties.

Samaritans volunteers provide emotional support for those in need, in despair, and contemplating suicide.

This raffle is being run to help the Samaritans provide their vital services over the dark winter months.

Every £5 donated has the power to answer a potentially life-saving call.

The Samaritans

Available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from over 200 branches across the UK and Ireland. Samaritans volunteers provide emotional support for those in need, in despair, and contemplating suicide.

In 2022, 23,000 volunteers answered an incredible 3 million calls; 46,000 live chats; and thousands of emails, texts, and face-to-face drop ins. With the ongoing the Cost of Living Crisis, their services are needed more than ever. In fact, this year they have seen the biggest rise in first time callers than ever before. However, as their operating costs increase, it is becoming more difficult to keep up with the rising demand for their vital services, providing the support people desperately need.

The Samaritans not only provides emotional support but also informs and inspires government and public policy on suicide prevention strategies. They also work towards safe coverage of mental health issues and suicide in the media, for example, Eastenders' long-running youth mental health and self-harm storyline was supported by Samaritans. Your donation will not only help those in need but also contribute towards driving change to help save more lives and create a better-informed society.
