Over the past four and a half years, the mentoring programme at Wigan Youth Zone has supported 84 young people, who have been referred onto the programme which offers critical 1-2-1 support from a trusted adult once a week for six months. As a result of this service, 100% of the young people have improved their Confidence, social skills/relationships and emotional skills and the Youth Zone has also seen dramatic increases in young people Feeling positive/confident about themselves, having hopes for the future, dealing well with problems and not giving up easily.
The current mentoring provision has been fully funded for the past four and a half years but is due to wind-down unless the Youth Zone can secure continuation funding on a long-term basis – in the meantime the Youth Zone are keen to support ten young people on our waiting list over the next six months – in order to give them some respite from their current challenges.
All monies raised will go directly to urgently extend the mentoring programme for the next six months – which will be a critical intervention for the ten vulnerable young people.
The mentoring programme has been a lifeline for young people facing significant challenges in their lives. Our expertly trained mentors have given young people confidence and the tools to manage their lives in a more positive way than previously.
Investing in our young people is a priority, so let’s Paint the Borough Red and show them what they mean to us.
With ten young people on the waiting list, and future funding for the programme uncertain, your urgent support is needed today.
