Story
Our charity event this term is entitled: "Performance at Winchester: seven centuries of music and drama". Pupils from across the school will be taking part in drama, music, and recitations, starting from the year 1382 (the year Winchester College was founded) up to the present day.
We are raising funds for Solar Aid. This is one of the school’s three charities. It was voted on by pupils last term and is our international charity.
As a charity, it works to distribute solar powered lights in Sub-Sahran Africa. In Sub-Sahran Africa 590 million people live without access to electricity. So when the sun goes down they must either use air polluting kerosene lamps or the working day ends for them.
Solar lights can solve this problem. With the flick of a switch farmers are able to sort crops after dark, children can complete their homework and medical professionals can safely carry on working.
The use of solar entrepreneurs allows solar lights to reach the most remote of communities while empowering female business people.
Please donate to help us reach our fundraising goal of £3000. A donation of £15 would fund an entire solar light.
Thank you for reading and hope you enjoy the performances!
