London Marathon 2025 - HEART UK

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
On the 15th July 2024 my Dad, Andy Burry, passed away at the age of 59. Following a long history of heart issues within my family, my Dad suffered a heart attack which was completely unexpected and out of the blue. After being admitted to the hospital’s cardiac ward, within a matter of days he was being prepared for open-heart bypass surgery in order to alleviate as much of the damage to his heart as possible. Unfortunately just two days prior to this surgery he passed away peacefully in his sleep following a further heart attack.
Enjoying his first few years of retirement following 38 years of service in the Royal Navy’s ‘Fleet Air Arm’, he lived a healthy active lifestyle, living to the fullest and showed no signs of heart issues. Even whilst in hospital awaiting surgery he was laughing, reminiscing and making light of the situation. Sadly, my Dad lost his Mum when she was 60 years old following a heart attack, so he stressed to my two sisters and I the importance of being vigilant with heart health, regular checks and living a healthy lifestyle - as far too often heart issues go unnoticed.
Losing a parent at the age of 24 is something that nothing can prepare you for, something you imagine would happen at a much later date. As a way to continue processing and navigating through the grief, I have found running as a way to deal with emotions, clear my head and gather my thoughts. Running the London Marathon has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and I couldn’t be prouder to run in memory of my Dad to raise money for a charity that is very important for myself and my family.
Every penny that is kindly donated will support the brilliant charity of Heart UK to raise awareness of the dangers of high cholesterol throughout the UK; campaign for improved screening, identification, and treatment of people with raised cholesterol and help support those diagnosed with either inherited or non-inherited high cholesterol and help reduce their risk of heart disease.
I am so thankful for your support and anything you can donate at all would be so gratefully received. I am so looking forward to do you all proud as I run in my Dad’s memory in the 2025 London Marathon.
Thank You!
Love, Will ❤️
