170 mile, 24-hour “Coast 2 Coast 2025” Challenge: St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay

Wolverhampton Grammar School has run an annual Coast 2 Coast challenge for over 25 years. It involves a group of Year 10 students running the 170 miles from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay as a relay team in just 24-hours. This year’s Coast 2 Coast challenge will start at 7am on Saturday 24th May from St Bees, with the aim of arriving in Robin Hood’s Bay by 7am on Sunday 25th May 2025.

In preparation for their challenge, the students undertake 16 weeks of extreme training to prepare them. Members of staff support the students during their training and the challenge itself. Parents also support the students from along the route.

This year’s team is made up as follows:

Imogen, Fleur, Isaaq, George, Gabrielle, Gurjot, Maisie, Charlotte, Zara, Emmy, Frankie

Along with the sense of personal achievement for the students in completing this challenge, each year the event raises funds for a charity, which is chose by the students taking part that year.

For 2025, the students have decided to fundraise for the Neo-natal Unit at New Cross Hospital. Every year, around 450 premature and sick newborns rely on the dedicated care provided by the Neonatal Unit at New Cross Hospital. This vital service offers lifesaving support to babies in need, with seven intensive care cots, seven high dependency cots, twelve special care cots, and five flats for parents to stay close to their little ones during their critical time.
