Story
Wolverhampton Grammar School has run an annual Coast 2 Coast challenge for over 25 years. It involves a group of Year 10 students running the 170 miles from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay as a relay team in just 24-hours. This year’s Coast 2 Coast challenge will start at 7am on Saturday 25th May from St Bees, with the aim of arriving in Robin Hood’s Bay by 7am on Sunday 26th May 2024.
In preparation for their challenge, the students undertake 16 weeks of extreme training to prepare them. Members of staff support the students during their training and the challenge itself. Parents also support the students from along the route.
This year’s team is made up as follows:
Charlie, Daniel, Ella, Isla, Jack, James, Krish, Lily, Mia, Sophia and Will
Along with the sense of personal achievement for the students in completing this challenge, each year the event raises funds for a charity, which is chose by the students taking part that year.
For 2024, the students have decided to fundraise for: BEAT - the UK’s eating disorder charity, founded 1989. Their mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. Around 1.25million people in the UK suffer from eating disorders, many in secret. BEAT provide a national helpline, 365 days per year, campaign to increase knowledge among healthcare and other relevant professionals and for better high-quality treatment.
Further details about BEAT can be found via this link: https://www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk
We hope that you are able to support our Coast 2 Coast 2024 Challenge and thank you in anticipation of your sponsorship. Along with the personal achievement for competing this rewarding challenge, the students hope to raise as much money as they can for BEAT.
If you have any queries regarding the event, please do not hesitate to contact the School on 01902 421326.
