About my funding:

I am a first year Biomedical Science student at the University of Surrey with a passion for healthcare. This June, I am excited to join Travelteer’s 4-week volunteering programmes in Hikkaduwa, where I will have the opportunity to volunteer in local hospitals for two weeks: Asiri Hospital Galle and Karapitiya national teaching hospital. Observing Sri Lankan healthcare professionals in action and gaining an understanding of busy healthcare systems in South Asia. We will also visit local disability centres in Hikkaduwa where we will teach english lessons and help out with physiotherapy by planning and delivering exciting sessions to the children. As well as learning about Ayuverdic treatments such as making herbal medicine and observing traditional acupuncture to treat stress and anxiety, gaining a deeper understand of the benefits of Eastern Medicine.

I will also be spending two weeks volunteering in marine and wildlife conservation, where I’ll have the incredible opportunity to participate in activities like animal rehabilitation and releasing turtles. This experience is especially meaningful to me, as my love for animals has always been close to my heart.

Volunteers have to fundraise £75 for each week we volunteer (Total of £300) By contributing to my fundraising page, you’re directly supporting underdeveloped projects that bring essential resources and care to communities in Sri Lanka. Every donation goes straight to Travelteer impact and their volunteering programmes.

Travelteer impact is a non-profit charity that works with local communities in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Morocco to create sustainable and charitable projects;

Marine and wildlife conservation: Tree planting and rubbish clearance to protect Sri Lankan coral reefs and rainforests.

Healthcare: medical elective, nursing and mental health placements.

Atlas outreach: english language, sports and community development.
