Story

On the 5th November 2020 I said good bye to my loving, caring and funny dad for the final time as his battle with lewy bodies disease and Parkinson's finally came to an end. The pain was unbearable and apart from my family and friends I found it hard to get through the day, then someone suggested I tried open water swimming all year around in all weathers, she had not long lost her dad and she said it helped with her grief, so I got all the gear with no idea and met her at the lake side on the 5th February 2021 and took my first cold dip, the feeling I had when the cold water took my breath away for a few seconds is hard to explain, but I felt at peace for the first time in months. 4 years on and I have found friends at the lake side and the beach, people who have changed my life and make it feel like I belong. I lost my Dad but found my beautiful friends bye the water.

So in memory of my Dad I'm going to swim 2k in the artic circle, please help me raise money for this very little known disease that took my Dad away.

Lewy body dementia is the second most common cause of age-related dementia, affecting around 130,000 people in the UK. We raise awareness of the disease, provide information to patients and carers, and fund research so that in future it can be more easily diagnosed and treated.
