Story
EDF commit to raising a whopping £300,000 through employee fundraising to support Alzheimer’s Society services and ground-breaking dementia research.
Having recently lost my father "Wayne Jones" this month and two weeks prior losing his Brother, my Uncle, "Edward Jones" to Alzheimer's, I will be in their memories attempting to run the Paris Olympic marathon in August 2024.
I have not run for 5 years now and know this will be an almighty challenge. It will be hard but nothing compared to the challenge I know all too well and the difficulties associated with having Alzheimer's or Dementia, for both those who have the disease and their families. I am more than up for this test.
First step, learn to run again; those from Heysham, you may have seen me walking into work or jogging home. This is to get my legs working, help with the weight loss, and obviously save the environment by leaving my car at home. I am only 1.5 miles from the station; this is a slow and short return to running.
Having previously run a marathon finishing in 4 hours 4 minutes and 2 half marathons before, finishing 1 hour 52 minutes, 1 hour 48, my last run being 5 years ago. However with the Paris course being very hilly I would like to set my goal around the 4 hour-30 mins.
I have been set a target to raise £2000 and any donations towards this worthy charity would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support.
