Story
My name is Yvette, better known as Wayfaring Kiwi. I'm a full-time travel writer, and moved to Scotland to trace my Scottish ancestry. My ancestors were Camerons, and fought in the Battle of Falkirk Muir, and I am fascinated with the history and stories from this period in time.
I am helping to fundraise for a Visitor Centre that commemorates this battle, and will be fun for travellers and locals alike to experience.
The Visitor Centre will also have a museum showcasing Jacobite memorabilia- one of the largest collections in Scotland!
It will be a wonderful addition to the community, promoting local tourism, and creating jobs.
**About the battle**
The Battle of Falkirk Muir was the largest battle during the 1745/1746 Jacobite Risings, yet it does not get the recognition it deserves.
The battle involved upwards of 20,000 men and lasted an hour, resulting in a victory for Prince Charles’ Jacobite army.
The final battle was fought on Wednesday 16th April 1746, at Culloden Moor, near the city of Inverness. It was such a conclusive victory for the Government forces that the Jacobites were not able to raise another armed force.
