Story
28 cats in need of new homes
Honeydew, Pineapple, Pear, Grape, Fig, Apple, Orange and Mango are just eight of the 28 cats that are currently being helped by the centre.
The fruity cats came into the centre recently from a multi-cat household with 28 cats in total! Very sadly, the gentleman’s wife passed away unexpectedly, and he was just left overwhelmed by the number of cats.
We are working hard to help these friendly cats, who were clearly much loved. They are all young adults who are aged between 2-4 years old. We have been bringing them into the centre in pairs and during their time at the centre they have been treated for cat flu, vaccinated and neutered.
Households in which more than three cats reside have a higher risk of stress and infection, even if the cats are vaccinated. Under these circumstances the risk of cats developing infectious diseases such as Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), cat flu, infectious diarrhoea and ringworm increases. For large multi-cat households of more than six cats, stress is a major factor in the development of these diseases. Therefore we need to bring the cats into the care of the centre gradually to help reduce the stress that a full scale removal would cause.
We still have 18 more cats to bring into care and help and would appreciate any help towards their care. We don't receive any government funding and are totally reliant on donations to help unwanted cats and kittens. It costs between £60-£80 to neuter each cat. We appreciate times are tight, the minimum donation set by JustGiving is £2, and every £1 helps so please donate if you can. If we are fortunate enough to raise more funds than required, the money will be used to help other cats in our care.
