Story
On Friday 20th October, team members and veterans from Blind Veterans UK's Llandudno Centre of Wellbeing will be undertaking a War Memorial Walk. The group will set off from the centre, along Queens Road to the promenade and make their way to the towns War Memorial before returning to the centre to complete the 4mile route.
Students and team members from the Military Preparation College for Training, will be accompanying the group. The students will also take the lead on a Moment of Reflection at the war memorial giving them a valuable opportunity to play a key role in this act of Remembrance.
The walk is part of the charity’s 'Planning to Remember' campaign, which encourages individuals and groups to organise activities and events 20th October – 12th November, ensuring the fallen and those left behind are not forgotten while raising vital funds to support the work at the centre.
How you can get involved:
For many of the veterans taking part, this event will be the conclusion to ‘Walking Week’, one of the many themed weeks offered at the centre in order to give blind veterans the opportunity to engage, discover or reconnect with hobbies and interests they thought may be inaccessible due to sight-loss. These themed weeks help blind veterans build their confidence, self-esteem and reduce the risk of isolation.
Make a donation and it will be restricted to use at the centre ensuring other veterans from across the UK can come to the centre and benefit from life changing experiences, rehabilitation and respite.
You can also show your support by welcoming the group as they arrive at the War Memorial 11am and join them for the Moment of Reflection which will take place shortly after.
