Story
Tuesday September the 9th is better known as Suicide Prevention Day, a day where charities and organisations come together to raise awareness of preventive measures we can take to reduce the number of suicide rates.
1 in 4 people here in the UK will experience a mental health problem every year, with an average of 115 people die by suicide on a weekly basis with 75% of these deaths recorded by men.
Kick Start FC are a charity that uses football as a way of providing peer support people for poor mental health, mental ill-health and social isolation; and challenging the stigma that attaches itself to this subject.
It just so happens that the England Men's Football Team are playing at Wembley on Suicide Prevention Day in their UEFA Nations League tie vs Finland.
As a way of raising awareness of this day, and to raise important for their services. A group of Kick Start FC volunteers will be walking 71 miles over two-days from Ludgershall, Wiltshire and finishing at "the home of football" aka Wembley Stadium, London.
Day One: Ludgershall to Reading (approx 37.5 miles)
Day Two: Reading to Wembley Stadium (approx 34.1 miles)
The money raised during this walk will be used to fund their Football Therapy services and community projects to raise awareness of mental health.
