#walkingforwheatfields
In memory of Elaine Keighley and Norman Tucker a group of friends will be walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks not once but twice, in under 24hours, to raise money for the Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds.
Wheatfields Hospice not only provided wonderful care to Elaine and Norman, but also care and compassion to their families and friends through extremely difficult periods.
Their sons, Chris and Simon have set this challenge in a bid to give something back to the hospice and the staff. The money raised will go towards helping other people and families accessing services at Wheatfields.
Taking place in July 2024, the gruelling challenge will see the lads attempt to loop the Yorkshire 3 Peaks trail – twice -in under 24hours.
Over a total of 48.5 miles and a combined elevation of 10,000ft, the lads will complete the iconic peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough twice over. Further than walking from Leeds to Manchester, and with combined elevation higher than Mount Olympus!
We know it’s not going to be easy. Training is underway, boots are being broken in and suggestions for a motivational playlist are being taken!
In Chris’ words –
“Wheatfields and its staff will forever hold a special place in my heart for the care and kindness they showed my mum in her final days. They also took care of me and my family and made a very difficult time that bit more bearable.
As a team we hope to raise money to support the hospice and help others visiting Wheatfields in the future. Any contribution will be massive and we are very grateful for your support.”
Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice combine specialist palliative care for managing pain and other symptoms, with emotional, practical and wellbeing support. The hospice offers expert care and 24hour monitoring to ensure its patients are as comfortable as possible. The Hospice welcomes donations to help make sure no one has to face death or grief alone.
Wish us luck!
Thank you.
