Story
Welcome to our fundraising page for our Lake District walk!
This is our latest fundraising event to try and ultimately raise £10,000 for Parkinson's UK in memory of my Dad and Ed's Gramps - John Lowry.
The challenge
The first two fundraisers for Dad / Gramps have totalled £3937.24 and we'd love to add another £750 to the pot!
We're starting in Keswick in the Lake District on May 26th 2024 and plan to walk a loop starting and finishing in Keswick of at least 60 miles with some big climbs along the way.
Day One - Keswick to Grasmere
Day Two - Grasmere to Tover
Day Three - Tover to Eskdale
Day Four - Eskdale to Nether Wasdale
Day Five - Nether Wasdale to Keswick
Ed is still only 11 so its a big task for his little legs (as well as my old legs!)
About Dad
Dads was my hero, he was the best Dad I could have ever wished for and has been a brilliant Gramps to his 6 grandchildren and to my brother, George.
His hero status is backed up by the incredible life he led with rugby at its heart; regarded as one of the best scrum-halves in England in the 70's, he was a (what now be) premiership standard referee in the 80's and then he gave back so much to the sport he loved for Matlock RFU, Derbyshire RFU and Notts, Lincs & Derbys RFU in many capacities - Chairman, President and head of disciplinary in the 90's and onwards.
Fundraising
Having had so many friends and family already support us with donations we've tried to do things a bit differently this time and have secured sponsorship from the fabulous people at WUNDERSTAR who have donated £500 to get us going!
We'll be donning our Parkinson's / Wunderstar t-shirts throughout our walk and, just like my Dad would have, will no doubt get talking to lots of people en route and in the pubs ands hope to persuade a few people to support us for a quid to two...fingers crossed!
Donating
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Thanks for reading and supporting us in our little part we are playing to fight this hideous and evil disease.
