Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2017 my son suffered severe cardiac and respiratory failure from pneumonia while at University in Cardiff. We were incredibly fortunate that St Thomas' Hospital (London) were able to offer him ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), a state-of-the-art heart-lung machine that allowed his body to recover while replacing the functions of those organs. I'm forever grateful for this life-saving intervention and the amazing and dedicated medical professionals who made it possible.
In September 2018 I walked 182 miles in 6 days from Cardiff to London as a personal tribute and symbolic journey marking Tom’s ECMO ambulance journey, the first leg of his 'Roads to Recovery', and to raise funds and awareness for ECMO at St Thomas’.
That was my first Walk4ECMO and now every year I set myself some walk challenges to support this cause.
This year I will be undertaking the following challenges:
1) Hadrian's Wall Hike : May 14th-17th
Taking four days to hike the 84 miles from Wallsend (east) to Bowness-on-Solway (west). I will be hoping for dry weather because I will be sleeping in a tent!
2) The Seven Hills of Abergavenny Hike : September 23rd
3) Abergavenny and Offas Dyke (HayBluff to Pandy) loop: September 24th
