Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 16th February I am taking part in the Hale 10k race, to raise funds for I Am Celebrating Autism in Greater Manchester. I Am (formerly ASGMA) has been empowering the autistic community in Greater Manchester for over 50 years, supporting a wide range of people, aged 10 years and upwards, who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition as well as their families, guardians and carers in Greater Manchester.
Our aim is to be the main developer and provider of support services for people with autism in the region and to be known as an exemplar and the first point of contact in this area. I Am has the knowledge, experience and passion to help individuals and families work through the challenges that ASC can bring towards a better relationship with autism as a part of their daily lives, and offers personal 1-2-1 support to an individual with ASC to cope with their disability, along with regular group work and activities to address social isolation, and improve life skills as well as mental and physical health.
I have been involved with the charity for nearly 15 years, including 9 years as a Trustee and 3 years as Chair of Trustees, and have decided to do something active to raise much needed funds. These will help us grow and deliver more services for more people, develop commercial offerings that enable businesses to employ autistic people successfully, giving them a chance to contribute to society and live independent lives, and campaign for better better services for the autism community in Greater Manchester.
