Vital Arts is the Arts and Wellbeing Service for Barts Health NHS Trust. We are charitably funded to bring world-class arts programming to a community of 2.5 million patients, across five major hospitals in east London.

Vital Arts works in partnership with clinical staff staff, artists and cultural organisations to devise and deliver a multi-strand programme that includes patient participation sessions, artist-in-residency projects, and exhibitions, as well as site-specific commissioned artworks which radically transform our hospital sites.

We are currently fundraising for the re-invigorating of our Patient Participation Programme, which provides year-round opportunities for patients to engage with music, dance, literature, visual arts, and craft workshops, with leading cultural partners. Previously these have included the London Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Studio Wayne McGregor, and the Royal Academy of Music. Sessions are held in public waiting spaces, within the wards, and as one-to-one sessions at patient bedsides.

These projects aid recovery, promote creativity, offer stimulating and uplifting environments, and make time spent in hospital more positive.
