Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We’re taking part in the September ‘Move for Mast Cell’ event. I plan to walk 5k in loops around Bitts Park, along with my gorgeous and enthusiastic sidekick, Eve!
Whilst this may not sound particularly challenging, many of you will know this is a considerable achievement for me following a tumultuous 4 years health wise.
We’re raising money for Mast Cell Action, a charity supporting the sufferers of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Its aim is to raise awareness of the condition and to educate healthcare professionals in order to improve diagnosis time and advance treatments.
MCAS is a little understood, debilitating condition of the immune system which can impact all bodily systems. It presents differently in each individual with malicious and miserable symptoms, including exhaustion, severe allergies, discomfort and pain. In some cases it can even lead to life-threatening anaphylaxis.
It can take a considerable amount of time for an individual to receive a formal diagnosis of MCAS. Treatment options are not readily available on the NHS. This has to change.
You can find out more about MCAS and Mast Cell Action at www.mastcellaction.org
