Story

Back in 2015 I (Vicki) ran my first marathon for WheelPower. A small charity making a big difference to those with disabilities and particularly spinal injuries.

Ed took part in the Tour de Vale bike ride in 2024 raising much needed funds for WheelPower and Evie, Alfie and Charlie helped me to run the tombola. So as a family we are big supporters of WheelPower! The next big challenge is for Ed and me to both fit in the training needed around a busy working life and looking after 3 small children and complete the London Marathon 2025!!

Over the last decade I have had the pleasure of getting to see first hand the amazing work WheelPower do. Each year there are 2 big events, the Inter Spinal Unit Games and the Junior games. Both of these take place at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the birthplace of the Paralympic movement.

At the Inter Spinal Unit Games newly injured people get to experience a range of sports and spend time socialising with others who are newly injured. A unique and positive experience for so many people, some of whom will be aspiring future paralympians. The Junior Games gives an opportunity for 11-18 year olds with disabilities to come together each year again to experience sports and again to spend time with others with disabilities.

WheelPower also host various Sports Festivals in various locations giving more people the opportunity to try out new sports. The work WheelPower does goes further than this with online resources and classes.
