In May 2025 I am volunteering for two weeks to help work at one of the partner schools in the impoverished slum areas around Nakuru in Kenya.

In partnership with Derby County Community Trust and African Adventures, I will work in schools which provide free education for children from underprivileged backgrounds.

The team will work in a range of roles from teaching, sports coaching, building, renovation and painting to make a difference and to learn about African life and culture.

Since 2012, nearly 500 volunteers have made the journey to Africa to improve the educational environment of the partner schools and to support the pupils and the local communities to ultimately assist their route out of poverty.

Previous volunteers have built new classrooms, kitchen amenities, perimeter fences/walls, installed drainage systems, water butts, improved sanitation as well as partnering with UK schools to develop the quality of the curriculum and standard of teaching.

A contribution is also made towards the Community Trust's programs within Derby to help support the lives and communities of local people through sport, health and education.

I am aware that it is a big challenge to raise so much money, and any donations will be most gratefully received. I will be organising an 80's themed disco in early Jan 2025 and running charity football cards to help raise the money.
