From 22nd March - 22nd June 2023, swim the English Channel your way, and find a fitter healthier you.

Story

Hi,

My name is Victoire, I am 13 years old and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year ago in April 2022.

After thinking that my life would end and that I would never be able to manage diabetes, it has now become a part of my everyday life. As my body doesn't naturally produce insulin anymore, I need to inject insulin 5 times a day to control my blood sugar levels after having calculated my carbs intake for every meal. While it gets easier to control day after day, it is still a real burden and I can’t help dreaming that one day there will be a cure rather than just a treatment.

From the 22nd of March to the 22nd of June 2023, I will be participating in Swim22, a challenge organized by Diabetes UK.

I will be swimming at least 11 miles (17.7 km) - half the distance of the English Channel - over the course of 12 weeks and raising money for Diabetes UK. I will need to swim at least 708 laps (of 25m each) in total, so about 60 laps per week.

Diabetes UK is an association that helps people living with diabetes in the UK access support and information and that also funds diabetes research to bring life-changing breakthroughs in care, treatment and prevention and bring us closer to a cure.

Please support me in raising money for diabetes UK by donating money on my JustGiving page!!!

Thank you!!
