Story
I’m raising money in memory of my mum for The Big Bake on September 28th on what would have been her 72nd birthday. Our Maman died just 6 months after her diagnosis with a Glioblastoma in June 2021.
The last 6- 12 months of her life were not forgiving and made even harder at the height of the pandemic.
She suffered a broken shoulder 2 weeks into chemotherapy and discovered she had a pulmonary embolism.
In the summer of 2020 our mum also had a knee replacement and less than 24 hours later an accident left her with a badly broken femur, she never walked properly again.
I had to watch from afar this young 69 year old woman turn into a frail 90 year old over the coming weeks. It was heartbreaking to say the very least.
A planned visit to her home in France turned into a mad dash for her eldest sister and I to say goodbye as we learned she had been placed on end of life …
Sadly she did not respond to chemotherapy and the day after the solstice the angels came to take her home and end her suffering.
Whilst my Maman lived in France it was thanks to TBTC that I learned all about this type of cancer and what to expect.
Holding a fundraiser that involves cake seems very fitting as my mum also raised money for Cancer France with cake sales.
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children, teens and adults under 40, but only around 3% of UK funding for cancer research is spent on brain tumours.
Luckily, we’ve got a secret ingredient that’ll help us rise to the challenge, push forward and mix things up – you.
Every penny you raise will help us fund new ground-breaking research, deliver life-changing support services and campaign for the needs of people affected by a brain tumour.
I miss you mum xx
