Story
Hello, my name is Vic Butler.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking part in the Hospices to Holland bike ride in September 2024. When the ride begins I will be 82 years old, and in four days I aim to ride the 282 miles from Eastbourne to Amsterdam to raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice.
I got my first bike when I was seven years old, and have been a cyclist ever since, I have raced in England since I was fourteen, and rode for the Zambian national team when I was working there in the 1970s. After a long and varied racing life I now ride around 100 miles each week purely for pleasure, and the fitness which keeps me enjoying life.
My family have had links with the Hastings area since the 1960s, and I have lived and worked here since 1981.
I have never done a sponsored ride before, but over a number of years close friends and family acquaintances have used the care and support which St Michael’s provides. None of us know when we might need that, and I wanted to contribute in a small way to that work whilst I am still able to do so.
If you decide to support my efforts with a donation I will make sure to keep you informed of my progress in preparing for the ride and intend a short daily post along the road to Amsterdam. Thank you for your time.
