Story
I am a specialist teacher and have been supporting a wide range of neurodiverse young people who face many daily challenges in their lives. I decided to do something to challenge myself at the same time supporting a charity whose work has a personal connection to vocation.
It all started in 2021 when my sister and I joined the Action Challenge organisation for our first ‘Ultra’ which was a ‘stroll’ from the North Devon coast to the South Devon coast - 106km. We then got the challenge bug which meant a lot of weekend walking to build up our stamina. To date I have completed 8 challenges. ‘
‘So what next’ we thought.
It’s got to be a big one, so looking at the Action Challenge international expeditions, I suggested Kilimanjaro, at over 5,000m high. Now the training and preparation really needs to get started……. So, watch out for our updates to see how we’re getting on with our training preparation.
My chosen charity -
The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we're moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour.
We're set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. And we're doing it right now. Because we understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait.
My sister is an occupational therapist supporting people who have had an acquired brain injury and her chosen charity is Headway (Somerset).
