MY 28 CHALLENGE POEM

by Verena Ayers

As my 70th birthday approaches

I wanted to do something worthwhile,

so I have signed up to ‘The 28 Challenge’

to give someone a reason to smile.

Hearing Dogs for the Deaf is my charity

Which is very dear to my heart.

Having suffered hearing loss for a number of years

I do hope you can help me take part.

My challenge is to find 28 people

who will kindly donate to my page.

Any amount would be so useful

as a Hearing dog can help any age.

Deaf people can often feel isolated

appearing to be in a world of their own.

Not being part of a conversation

can make you feel quite alone.

Dogs can be wonderful companions

for both children and adults in strife,

when trained to assist deaf people

they can help reconnect them to life.

Whether listening out for the doorbell

or acting upon the fire alarm,

dogs can support frightened people

and reassure them by keeping calm.

Donations pay for puppy training

their food, a collar and doggie toy

training leads plus visible uniforms

and treats for our puppies to enjoy

So, if you can please help me

raise money for this excellent cause,

I ‘Thank You’ most sincerely

and will bake you some ‘cheesy paws’.
