I'm aiming to raise £1 for every kilometre I’ll ride, walk, or crawl (quite literally) in Morocco this February.
With temperatures soaring above 30°C in the desert by day, plummeting to freezing at night, and climbing over 2,500m-high mountain passes, the Atlas Mountain Race is an ultra-cycling event that challenges not only physical endurance but also common sense. From sunburn and sunstroke to hypothermia, extreme exertion, and a lack of clean water—not to mention the risk of encountering adders, scorpions, and other wildlife—it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Historically, the completion rate for this punishing event is as low as 50%. The course includes vast remote stretches with no resupply points for over 100km, and participants must tackle it unsupported, relying on themselves for food, sleep, and repairs, with only three official checkpoints along the way.
While it’s technically a race, my personal goal is simply to complete the course within the 8-day time limit. Hopefully, taking my time and dragging the torture out longer will inspire more donations along the way!
Why I’m Doing This
Cancer has deeply impacted my family and friends. Having lost loved ones and currently supporting a family member battling cancer, I’ve seen first-hand how devastating it can be—and how vital funding is for care, support, and research. Sadly, recent budget cuts have made these challenges even harder for those affected.
In 2022, I completed my first “big” cycling challenge and raised over £2,000 for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). In autumn 2023, I took on another endurance event to support my friend and former teammate, Piotr, in his fight against cancer. Heartbreakingly, Piotr passed away before the year ended. Most recently, in 2024, I ran a 20km ultratrail race, raising £820 for CRUK thanks to your incredible generosity.
For 2025, I’ve chosen the Atlas Mountain Race to push my limits and raise even more funds. Known as one of the toughest ultra-cycling events in the world, it’s going to be a monumental challenge for me—but one I’m determined to take on.
How I’m Doing It
The Atlas Mountain Race is an unsupported bikepacking event, starting in Marrakesh on 7th February. Covering 1,300km and climbing over 22,000m—mostly off-road—it’s a brutal winter challenge.
I took up cycling during the Covid-19 pandemic and, to this day, wearing lycra still feels a bit odd! But I’ve been training hard to prepare for what will undoubtedly be my biggest test yet. My aim is to complete the event within 7 days and, hopefully, with as few mishaps as possible.
Throughout the event, I’ll be sharing updates and a live-tracking link so you can follow my progress and cheer me on (virtually).
Thank you for reading and supporting this cause that means so much to me. Together, we can make a difference for those fighting cancer.
Please consider donating if you can, no donation is too small!
