Story

The University of Utah is proud to partner with Utah Food Bank and Smith’s for this year’s "Tackling Hunger Together" food drive, a tradition that has spanned decades and made a lasting impact on communities throughout the state. The University of Utah’s food drive will seamlessly integrate into the Friendsgiving celebration, serving as the grand finale of the month-long initiative to combat hunger. Friendsgiving will not only be a time for students, faculty, and alumni to gather and celebrate, but it will also highlight the impact of the food drive through a presentation of the total donations and pounds of food collected. We will also feature moments of recognition for participants and partners, including Utah Food Bank, Smith’s, and representatives from BYU, showcasing the collaborative effort between the two universities

This annual effort, which begins on Saturday, Nov. 2, and concludes with the Friendsgiving celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 27, has been a cornerstone of the university’s commitment to addressing food insecurity in Utah.

There are many ways to get involved, including:

1. Smith’s Locations – You can donate non-perishable food items in person at the following Smith's locations:

- 402 E 6th Ave, Salt Lake City, UT 84103

- 876 E 800 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84102

- 922 E 2100 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84106

- 3215 S Valley Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84109

- 455 S 500 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84102

2. Prior to the Utah vs. BYU Game on Nov. 9 – Students will be collecting monetary donations (cash and Venmo) outside the game.

3. Tailgates – Students will visit tailgates before the Utah vs. BYU game on Nov. 9 and the Utah vs. Iowa State game on Nov. 23 to collect monetary donations.

4. Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House – There will be a collection barrel at the Alumni House where you can stop by to make your donation.

Organized by the Student Alumni Board (SAB), this food drive provides the university community with many opportunities to make a meaningful difference.
