Underdog Run Club

St Mungo’s provides a bed and support to more than 3,150 people a night who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness. Our vision is that everyone has a place to call home and can fulfil their hopes and ambitions.

Story

We are closer to being homeless than we are to being billionaires.

The Underdog Run Club has been set up to raise money for smaller less supported charities. Last year we raised over £3000 for The Bone Cancer Research trust and this year we are hoping to raise a similar amount for St Mungo's.

Our little local run club is inclusive, relaxed & welcoming. We meet Tuesdays 7pm & Sundays 930am. We usually cover between 5 & 10k at a relaxed conversational pace. We run with a buddy system so no one gets left behind. The first Monday of each month, we meet at the Walthamstow Feel Good centre run track for a more structured session tailored to those who want to improve their stamina and pacing. All we ask is a £5 donation each time you join us. This way you make yourself accountable by showing up regularly while also helping St Mungo's end homelessness and rebuild lives.

About St Mungo's:

A change of circumstance can mean losing your home. In the past two years, rough sleeping has increased by 44%. The cost of living for many has become impossible to sustain.

Women in particular experience homelessness in different ways. From escaping domestic violence, assault and struggling to cope with children in tow. Men experience homelessness in ways unique to them too, from substance abuse to unemployment, for example. People of colour are statistically higher at risk for a variety of reasons, these may include lack of opportunities and discrimination. While LGBTQ youth, meanwhile, often find themselves sleeping rough after being kicked out of their parents' house.

St Mungo's exists to piece people's lives back together. They understand everyone's story is different. Touchingly, they also happen to be the only homeless charity that understand how dogs are often a rough sleeper's only source of comfort and companionship. This is why their hostels and emergency shelters never demand people give up their dogs in order to access a warm bed.
