Story

You’re helping us make history happen! Life-changing therapies are on the way for patients affected by SYNGAP1. Now is the time to prepare for the clinical trials that will be required.

Find us again at #UFDcure.

Brett and team at UFD Tech will be hosting the 2023 Cannonball for the Cure to help prepare the way for taking treatments to trial. Over the last four years, the UFD Tech community has helped raise over $384,000 to fund research on SYNGAP1. This has contributed to the over $4 million that has been committed to research by Syngap Research Fund. The organization’s efforts have driven significant interest in the disorder from both researchers and pharmaceutical companies. A variety of repurposed drug options as well as genetic therapies are currently in development to help provide targeted treatment to patients who desperately need it. The critical next step to treating patients will be testing treatments through multiple clinical trials, each of which will require substantial financial investment. The SYNGAP1 Community remains confident that relief can be provided to their loved ones who suffer from intellectual disability, epilepsy, global developmental delay, and aggressive behaviors.

The third annual Cannonball for the Cure will begin once again at the Red Ball Garage in NYC at 9:00am eastern on Wednesday, October 4th. The nearly three day drive will span the continental USA and features the Ford F-150 Lightning decked out in signature zebra ombre. It will be impossible to miss at the more than 20 charging stops along the way. The Cannonball route concludes at the Portofino Hotel in LA late on Friday, October 6th. The entire event will be live streamed non-stop at UFD Tech on YouTube and Twitch. As always, the team has prepared a slew of outrageous challenges and tech giveaways. You’re invited to extend your non-stop viewing for a surprise in San Diego on the 7th and to help them keep their eyes open during the drive back to the east coast.

This year’s team will feature some new faces from both the Tech and SYNGAP1 Communities. Brett and Peter are both fathers to young boys affected by SYNGAP1 and will be leading the shenanigans as third-year veterans of the event. They will be joined by Reece Hill, long-time UFD Media staff from its humble beginnings in a South African granny flat. Additionally, Monica Harding will be the first mother of a Syngapian to be featured on the stream. She brings a wealth of wisdom as the mother of a teenager affected by SYNGAP1 and hopefully offers an antidote to the unfortunate number of dad jokes that will inevitably occur.
