Tom's Half Marathon Fundraiser

Half Marathon - Glasgow Green · 4 May 2025
I've seen firsthand the devastation dementia/Alzheimers can wreak on an individual, their spouse, and direct family members, and as it's becoming the single biggest killer in the UK and continuously on the rise, I feel it's important to dedicate funding to a cause.
Also, due to technological advancements, it seems that further medical breakthroughs may mean its much easier to treat and manage in the future, and funding for groundbreaking research is crucial for this.
The Alzheimer's Society also provides vital support for the individual and their family, alongside raising awareness of the disease, and pushing the government to enact policy making changes.
To raise money for the event, I'll be running the Glasgow Half Marathon on the Green on May 4th. The distance will be just over 21km. It's my first ever marathon, and I've gone from struggling to make 5km at the start, to being able to run around 15km without stopping in around three months. I started training in September, but will be pushing myself further over the course of the next three months or so in order to reach my target. I want to set a decent time and run continuously, so I'll be running up to five times a week alongside swimming and other exercise activities to keep me lean and mean. I aim to run 20km a couple of times beforehand too.
I've set the ball rolling and donated £30 myself alongside the £25 entry fee to the race. Times are tight for everyone right now so please only donate what you can. I'll keep you all updated on this page when I can!
