We are a community project in Laverstoke to improve lives of our members

Story

In May we'll be walking 23 miles around Whitchurch, Ashe, Steventon, Overton and Laverstoke to raise money for the Test Valley Men's Shed.

Test Valley Men’s Shed is a local group that helps individuals to learn and grow their skills in woodwork and metalwork. Crucially though, it’s the opportunity for members to socialise, create friendships and keep active which is the real value of the charity.

TVMS also provide valuable craftsmanship to community projects in Overton and Whitchurch, in turn supporting other worthwhile causes and initiatives.

TVMS made their home at Laverstoke Pavillion 8 years ago, and have invested in tools and facilities to enhance their offering to members and customers alike. However, the building itself is in urgent need of repairs to ensure its viability for the coming years. The

Critically, the drains at the Pavillion need urgent and costly work. TVMS is working with Whitchurch Tennis Club, who also rent the Pavillion, to ensure the building is safe and functional.

The Men’s Shed do truly amazing work, please help me to help them secure their premises today, and continue to grow their membership.

Laverstoke and Freefolk Parish Council launched Test Valley Men’s Shed in the mid-2010s. At first, the flooring was rotten and walls were bare. A local electrician help to run wiring for wall-mounted sockets. Furniture, heaters and machine tools were donated by generous members and, before long, a fully-functioning club and workshop emerged. By 2016/7, we were getting some great press. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9am and 12noon. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and members chat, share a cuppa and work on individual or collaborative projects – mainly wood and metal work – through the course of the morning. Currently we have 18 members and welcome more. If you are interested to join, or see what we get up to, please pop along to the club or telephone Nick on 07899 840057.
