Story
Reuben's Retreat is the Travel Village Group's first charity partner, and it was founded in August 2012, just 2 days after Reuben Graham died aged just 23 months old. His Mummy Nicola created the charity to help others who are facing or already dealing with similar heartbreak, walking side-by-side with families offering emotional and practical support for parents and siblings bereaved of a child and for families of life limited or threatened children who face uncertain futures. Here are some examples of what your donation will be used for:
• £10 provides a bereavement book to sibling who has lost their brother or sister
• £25 donates a well-being session to a parent
• £30 donates a memory-making session in the sensory room
• £55 provides a hydrotherapy swim session for a family in the pool
• £60 provides a counselling session for a parent grieving the loss of their child
THE CHALLENGE
24th - 25th June 2024 • Yr Wyddfa (Mt Snowdon) via Crib Goch, to Tryfan to Foel Fras • 24 hours • 30 miles • Over 4000m of ascent
The Welsh 3000s Challenge is an adventurous and demanding mountain trek in Wales. It entails summiting all 15 (17 unofficially) peaks over 3,000 feet in Snowdonia within 24 hours. The total walking distance is about 30 miles, from Pen y Pass to Bwlch y Ddeufaen, with a significant elevation (over 3000m in total) gain. The team will be tested to their limits on endurance, physicality and tenacity. At first light, on 24th June, the team will head off on their epic route across the Snowdon range, starting with the terrifying and notorious knife-edge ridge (and grade 1 scramble) of Crib Goch. The team will then head up to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) - the highest peak in Wales - tag the trig point, and then trek on to the rugged terrain of the Glyder range, heading up Bristly Ridge and onto iconic Tryfan. From there the team will drop down to Llyn Ogwen to grab supplies and head up into the Carnedds for the finish 20km push to the final peak of Foel Fras, and then down to meet their support team at Bwlch y Ddeufaen. The team will aim to complete the challenge within 24 hours, although weather conditions can be unpredictable, which may add to the challenge.
The team attempting the challenge will be Jess Clayton, Layna McMoran, and Oliver Parsons. Joining them will be Stacey Kirkpatrick from Reuben's Retreat; Jenny Wade of Explora Journeys, Robin Griffiths from APT River Cruises, and Tracy Leeming from Loom Loft.
