Story
The Why
If ever there was a challenge seemingly at odds with its cause this might be it. 10 men sledding through snow and ice in the Arctic circle to protect African wildlife some 5,000 miles away.
Yet they are so intertwined.
Biodiversity is one of our key soldiers in the battle against climate change. A healthy lion population in Kenya, for instance, plays a huge role in ensuring the polar ice caps remain stable. Similarly rising sea levels threatens the existence of thousands of species in Africa, humans included.
This is what we will be constantly reminding each other as we dig our sleds out of the snow or try to harness up a husky in -20 degree centigrade.
The What
In February 2024 ten of us will be heading north, 150km inside the Arctic Circle to participate in the annual Tusk Arctic Challenge. A 40km husky sledding time trial followed by a 20km cross country skiing race, culminating with a no doubt uninhabitable attempt at building an igloo.
While there is no doubt we will enjoy the challenge, we do so to raise money for Tusk, one of the world's leading wildlife conservation charities. Their work has become increasingly crucial in the last decade and will be ever more so as the years slip by.
Help us to help them and gain through giving, with a range of rewards available to donors, and ensure we have the utmost motivation as the mercury drops and the miles mount up, thank you.
The Who
In short; Will, Luke, Tom, Billy, Willy, Rob, Joe, Sam, Dan and Alex. Only one of us has been to the Arctic before, three of us have never seen a pair of skis before, none of us have tried to build an igloo, we collectively speak 0 words of Swedish and all most of us know about snow is don't eat the yellow stuff.
We have an English autumn to prepare ourselves and, most importantly, fundraise. Whether we're about to be the next Cool Runnings or, more likely, Eddie the Eagle with less airtime, we hope you will support Tusk with us. Thank You.
100% of your donation will go to Tusk.
