Story

I am a blind man who writes a blog

https://www.facebook.com/travellingblind/

in the hope of showing people that being blind is not the end of life but the start of something new and exciting. It is also informative and, if I say so myself, very funny.

To date we have raised £15556 for Guide Dogs and this year we hope to raise at least another £10000.

I don't need a guide dog myself but I'd hate to think that I did need one but none were available so I'll be taking on several challenges during the year and I am open to suggestions. In 2022 I became the first blind man to walk the Wolds Way, 79 miles in 7 days with 11 terrific volunteer guides. Last year I was the first blind man to walk the Cleveland Way, 109 miles over 12 days with 18 amazing volunteer guides.

I am also available to talk to groups, clubs etc in return for funds for Guide Dogs.

We have been lucky enough to have raised sufficient funds to name three Guide Dog puppies, (Skye, Lewis and Barney) and aim to name at least two more this year. Please help us achieve this in any way you can. All updates can be seen on Travelling Blind.

Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.

Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
