Story

I aim to walk 100 miles in March 2025 to raise money for the Surrey Hills International Music Festival - to help ensure that top level live classical music continues to be available now and for the rising generations of music lovers.

Even more vitally, the extra money means that the Festival will be able to keep running its other charitable projects, like the String Scheme in local schools, the Surrey Hills Young Composer Competition and important performance platforms for gifted young emerging artists. We will also be able to realise our plans for projects which introduce a new audience of disadvantaged children to the joy of live classical music.

About the charity

As an organisation promoting the arts and culture, the Festival is a registered charity, but our charitable activity goes beyond just the presentation of world-class concerts. Through the support of the Festival Friends, we have supported the local String Scheme for local state primary pupils, enabling dozens of Year-4 pupils to receive weekly group instruction on loaned violins and cellos. This fantastic scheme (set up by Royal Grammar School Guildford) plugs the curriculum gap, giving local school children vital exposure to music and music-making. In addition, the festival creates invaluable performance opportunities for young and emerging artists as they work towards establishing sustainable careers.
